Scottish electropop band Chvrches played sold-out shows this Monday and Tuesday night in New York. I made it to Tuesday night’s show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg thanks to getting on the house list through a friend. Besides for having a cold, hordes of young girls blocking my view by taking selfies with the band in the background, and me spilling a full $9 cup of bourbon promptly after purchasing, the night was a success.
Lead singer Lauren Mayberry’s voice wooed the crowd, yet the band’s set and her stage presence could use some work. Chvrches played all of their hit singles: The Mother We Share, Lies, Recover, and Gun, and finished off with an encore covering Prince’s I Would Die For You.
As a young band, they still have some work to do when it comes to live performances, but Chvrches is definitely a band to keep on your radar. Their debut studio album, The Bones of What You Believe, will be released on September 23, 2013 in the UK and on September, 24 2013 everywhere else. ♦
